HK-GH Silica Fume

Silica fume (also known as "microsilica"), is amorphous and powdery silicon dioxide (SiO₂) collected by specially designed dust collectors after the oxidation of silicon vapor discharged through the flue during the smelting of ferrosilicon and industrial silicon. The average particle size of silica fume is between 0.1μm and 0.15μm, which is a few hundredths of the average particle size of cement. Its specific surface area is 15 - 27 m²/g, and it has extremely strong surface activity.

    Performance Characteristics

    The product mainly complies with GB/T 27690-2023 "Silica Fume for Mortar and Concrete" and GSO ASTM C1240:2024 "Standard Specification for Silica Fume Used in Cementitious Mixtures". When an appropriate amount of silica fume is added to cement products and concrete admixtures, it can significantly improve the compressive, flexural, impermeability, anti-corrosion, impact resistance and wear resistance in various stages, significantly extend the service life and significantly increase the product strength. The main manifestations are as follows:
    1. Increase in strength: It greatly increases the compressive and flexural strength of concrete. When 5% - 10% of silica fume is added, the compressive strength can be increased by 10% - 30%, and the flexural strength can be increased by more than 10%.
    2. Increase in density: The impermeability performance is improved by 5 - 18 times, and the carbonation resistance is improved by more than 4 times.
    3. Frost resistance: After 300 - 500 rapid freeze-thaw cycles, the relative elastic modulus of silica fume concrete is reduced by 10% - 20%, while that of ordinary concrete is reduced by 30% - 73% after 25 - 50 cycles.
    4. Early strength: Silica fume concrete shortens the induction period and has the characteristic of early strength.
    5. Anti-abrasion and anti-cavitation: The anti-abrasion ability of silica fume concrete is 0.5 - 2.5 times higher than that of ordinary concrete, and the anti-cavitation ability is 3 - 16 times higher.

    Scope of Application

    Silica fume is mainly applicable to high-strength concrete, unshaped refractory materials, dry-mixed (ready-mixed) mortar, high-strength non-shrinkage grouting material, wear-resistant industrial floor, repair mortar, polymer mortar, thermal insulation mortar, anti-seepage concrete, self-leveling concrete, concrete densifier, concrete anti-corrosion agent, cement-based polymer waterproofing agent; strength reinforcement of rubber, plastic, unsaturated polyester, paint, coating and other polymer materials, modification of ceramic products, etc.

    Usage Methods

    For use in concrete: Generally, it is advisable to replace 5% - 15% of the cement dosage with silica fume, and the equivalent replacement method or the excessive replacement method can be adopted. During the mixing process, the silica fume should be thoroughly mixed with other dry materials first. The mixing time of silica fume concrete should be extended by 0.5 - 2 minutes compared with that of ordinary concrete to make the concrete mix more evenly and prevent the silica fume from agglomerating in the concrete and causing quality accidents. Then add water and admixtures for mixing to ensure that the silica fume is evenly dispersed in the concrete.
    Secondary troweling: Conduct secondary troweling on the concrete before the final setting. It is best to cover the concrete with plastic film or straw mats after troweling to prevent surface cracks caused by excessive evaporation of water.
    Moisture conservation: 2 to 4 hours after the final setting, the concrete should be kept moist, and it should be cured in a humid environment for more than 14 days. The curing methods can include water spraying for moisture conservation, covering for moisture conservation, or water storage for curing.

    Packaging and Storage

    1. Storage conditions: Silica fume should be stored in a dry and well-ventilated warehouse to avoid getting wet and being rained on, and to prevent caking and reduction of activity.
    2. Protective measures: During the handling and use of silica fume, operators should wear dust masks, protective glasses, gloves and other protective articles to avoid inhaling silica fume dust and causing harm to the human body.
    3. Silica fume is packaged in multi-layer kraft paper valve bags, with a net weight of 25kg per bag or customized packaging specifications according to customer requirements.
